Welcome
WELCOME to the Oregon Society of Weed Science (OSWS) homepage. Since the early 1950's the OSWS has actively served its membership through the dissemination of weed management research, educational, and regulatory information. OSWS members from across the state represent a diverse cross section of disciplines including agronomy, horticulture, forestry, rangeland science, and noxious and invasive weed management.
Please join us for the 2012 Annual Meeting in Hood River, OR, at the Best Western Inn, October 30 and 31. Based on a recent poll of our membership we have selected these later dates in October for our annual meeting this year to accommodate the ever-changing workloads of our membership. Mark your calendars now so that you will be able to attend!
The meeting will give you an opportunity to take part in panel discussions and interact with members from private industry, public service, universities, and state/federal agencies who are actively engaged in weed management related matters. The OSWS annual meeting provides a great opportunity to expand and foster education and research in weed science. The program this year includes a variety of topics presented by weed management experts and field practitioners from OR and around PNW region and will include information on the biology/ecology of problematic invasive weed species, the rapidly changing uses of technology and social media in agriculture and weed science, in-depth discussions on herbicide site of action and herbicide resistance management, regulatory matters including NPDES permitting issues, weed management in alternative agronomic crops, and industry updates on new products and uses of herbicides. There will also be the opportunity to obtain continuing education recertification credits for pesticide licensing as well as regional certified crop adviser program credits.
The OSWS web site is continually updated, so I encourage you to re-visit this site periodically to keep abreast of recently added information. Currently, the site contains information regarding OSWS membership, our annual meeting, Board of Directors, and useful links to regional/national weed science associations and university research stations. The Board of Directors invites your critique of past meetings and input on the development of future annual meetings and the web site.
I’d like to thank the OSWS membership for the opportunity to serve as your 2012 President. I look forward to working with the Board and membership in the future.
Thank you!
Andy Hulting, President
